HSBC - 160th
Client
To mark 160 years of HSBC, the brand’s iconic hexagon was given a rare and meaningful reinterpretation, a hand-sketched version by Henry Steiner, the original designer behind the logo. More than a visual update, it was a celebration of legacy, craftsmanship, and the enduring power of a symbol that has come to represent global connection and trust.
For me, this project felt personal. The HSBC hexagon was one of the reasons I was drawn to the brand in the first place, a mark I’ve always admired for its simplicity, precision, and timelessness. Being part of its story, even briefly, felt like coming full circle.
When I received the brief, I knew this wasn’t just about animation; it was about respect. Respect for the legacy, the designer, and the millions of people who recognise that symbol instantly.
I worked as part of a team to bring this animation to life. I approached the piece with care, translating Henry Steiner’s hand-drawn lines into motion in a way that preserved their human quality while giving them new energy.
It was a project I fully immersed myself in, not just because of what it was, but because of what it meant to me. And in the process, I created something that honoured the past while helping it live in the present.
